PRP Injection Therapy can help you re-grow your hair!

Excessive hair loss can be caused by stressful events such as crash diets, childbirth, poor nutrition, and physical or emotional stress. These forms of hair loss are often temporary and may not result in permanent alopecia. A variety of other factors causing excessive hair loss include heredity, hormones, medications, internal disease states, and skin diseases of the scalp. Even your favorite hair style and hair products can be contributing to your hair loss. Before treatment is initiated, it is important to find the cause of the alopecia.

Dr. Schweitzer recommends treating hair loss early to try and prevent formation of large bald spots and excessive thinning of the hair. Excessive hair loss can be successfully treated with Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Therapy or PRP Injection Therapy. Autologous PRP is a high concentration of the patient’s platelets and growth factors suspended in the patient’s own plasma. Since PRP is obtained from the patient’s own blood, there is minimal risk of allergic reactions and virtually no risk of rejection. PRP utilizes a cutting edge technology which allows us to extract a high concentration of biological nutrient rich cells and generate platelet rich plasma.

The goal of aesthetic PRP therapy is to promote hair growth. There is a very low risk of allergic reactions to PRP and some degree of bruising is common. Patients that are on anticoagulation or aspirin therapy may not be good candidates for PRP injections. A patient must have a reasonable number of healthy platelets and growth factors in their blood in order for PRP to be effective. The response to PRP therapy varies between patients and more than one treatment session may be required to achieve maximum results.
